Good for: Balcony
Watering & light guide
Light: a sunny balcony or window ledge with at least 4–6 hours of sun a day.
Watering: water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry, usually once a week; less in winter. Forgiving if you miss a watering.
Always let excess water drain out of the pot. Message us on WhatsApp if your plant looks unhappy.
A compact ixora that is already flowering, with dense red clusters held above glossy leaves. It blooms for much of the year and suits pots, borders and low hedges.
It arrives as a single rooted sapling in a small net pot. Plant it net pot and all; the roots grow straight through.
About this sapling
- In the box: 1 rooted sapling in a net pot
- Sapling height: about 3–6 inches
- Light: At least 4–5 hours of direct sun
- Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist; do not let it dry out completely
The grown plant
- Type: Flowering shrub
- Care level: Easy
- Grows to: 3–5 ft (easily kept smaller by pruning)
- Season: Flowers most heavily from spring to monsoon
- Pets: Not pet-safe: keep out of reach of pets and children.
- Tip: Prefers slightly acidic soil; yellowing leaves usually mean it needs feeding.
How to plant your sapling
- Pick a pot 4–6 inches wide with a drainage hole.
- Fill it two-thirds with potting mix (garden soil, cocopeat and vermicompost in equal parts works well).
- Make a hollow in the centre and set the sapling in it with its net pot.
- Fill around it, firm gently and water until it drains from the bottom.
- Keep it out of harsh sun for 3–4 days while it settles, then move it to its usual spot.
